Global smartphone production dropped in 2020: Report
A new report has revealed that the global production of smartphones plummeted significantly by 11 percent in 2020.
ComprarAcciones.com, a financial advisory in the business of educating the public on how to buy and invest stocks, suggested that the fall resulted from the global impact of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
The outbreak of COVID-19 had crippled economic activities globally, pushing countries into recession and hardship, forcing several businesses to shut down.
The report projected the number of global smartphone production to rise by nine percent in 2021.
It also predicted an 11.4 percent increase in the global sale of smartphones for the year mentioned.
“Due to the impact of the pandemic, global smartphone production plummeted significantly in 2020. According to the research data analysed and published by Comprar Acciones, there was an 11 percent decline, sending total output to 1.25 billion units during the year.
“The figure is projected to increase by nine percent in 2021 to 1.36 billion,” the report noted.
“Global smartphone shipments fell by seven percent from 1.37 billion in 2019 to 1.26 billion in 2020. Meanwhile, Gartner states that there will be an 11.4 percent increase in smartphone sales in 2021 to 1.5 billion units,” it added.
It predicted Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Transsion, OPPO, and Vivo smartphones to lead the smartphone market, accounting for at least 85 percent of global production in 2021.
This will leave notable brands like Tecno, Infinix, Huawei, Gionee, and other smartphone brands to scramble for the remaining 25 percent of the global production.
“In 2021, the top six brands in terms of production will include Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Transsion, OPPO and Vivo. The six will account for at least 85 percent share of the global production total during the year,” it noted.
The report detailed that the 5G smartphones will account for 35 percent of global sales in 2021 rising from a total sale of 213.26 million in 2020 to 538.53 million units in 2021.
