South-East next target, destination for destruction by killer herdsmen: OPC
WThe Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has called on South-East governors to prevent fleeing killer herdsmen from entering their region.
The group also threw its weight behind the South-West Security Network (Amotekun) despite recent controversies regarding the outfit.
In a statement by its spokesman, Yinka Oguntimehin, the group said with the recent efforts of Amotekun in Oyo and Osun, there were hopes that the security challenges in the region would be over soon.
Mr. Oguntimehin said, “We need to commend the group’s leaders for their commitment to the South-West. Last year, the Amotekun corps intercepted 14 Almajirai hidden in a vehicle container in Osun, and their recent feat in Iddo is also commendable. It is obvious that the South-West security outfit has all it takes to flush out the bad elements in the region.”
Oguntimehin urged South-East governors to back the Eastern Security Network (ESN) so that criminals who fled the South-West will not move to their region.
“Now that the South-West is doing everything necessary to rid the region of criminal elements, including killer herdsmen and kidnappers, the South-East remains their next target and destination for destruction.
“It is advisable for the South-East governors to enforce a better approach and modalities for securing the region using the Eastern Security Network,” he advised.
